Myanmar models – what happened?

Myanmar models

We found a public photo album with many pictures of myanmar models and to tell you the truth, we were beyond shocked to see the pictures. Whatever happened to classy, attractive and elegant myanmar models? The pictures of myanmar models we saw are far from classy nor elegant.

Not only myanmar models, but myanmar girls these days seem to be in favour of showing as much skin as possible. Take a look at last year’s Thingyan. Every other girl on stage was in a revealing blouse or a low-cut and a short mini-skirt. The girls do not seem to want to leave anything to the imagination.

Do you think it is acceptable to wear (or not wear) whatever they feel like? Or should they start valuing themselves a little more and stop worrying about catching a random man’s eyes? According to a Spanish Proverb, “If you want to be respected, you must first respect yourself.”

As a man, it’s hard for me to respect or love a woman who is dressing for sexual attention. I might want to sleep with her, but I will not think about pursuing a relationship with her.

  2. Andrew @ April 6th, 2007 at 7:41 pm:

    I thought!

    They might be starving!
    OR
    Thirsty!

Just my hunches, I know they are not brilliant in any way.

Wish all well and safe from all bad things!

  3. Administrator @ April 6th, 2007 at 10:39 pm:

Andrew: Thank you for your comment. Hope the girls will come to a realisation before it’s all too late.

  4. ko htoo @ April 13th, 2007 at 6:48 pm:

I think this is not a big problem for us.They have the right to to do what they want if that not effect to other.

  5. Administrator @ April 14th, 2007 at 1:15 pm:

ko htoo: Thanks for your comment. Yes, they have the right to do whatever they want, but sometimes it does not look good in other people’s eyes and thus they should think about what they are doing. We wouldn’t want our own sisters, girlfriends or wives to dress like that, would we?

  6. ko htoo @ April 15th, 2007 at 9:20 am:

Administrator: I mean we have to neglect them at the moment, they will leave it when our society don’t accept it.Long long ago also had the same things wearing transperance cloths. Now, nobody wearin this cloth anymore.

  7. ROMEO @ May 9th, 2007 at 6:23 pm:

  8. anonymous @ June 25th, 2007 at 9:25 pm:

It’s a soooooo bad wearing and actions for Myanmar girls.

  9. pankalay @ June 25th, 2007 at 9:39 pm:

I worried about them fearing that they will be worse in the future. Do their parents allow like that? I can’t think how the future myanmar girls will dress imitating these models.

  10. koye @ July 10th, 2007 at 8:51 am:

Playboy pictures is still OK for this century BUT there is some porno film that shocked me. I can’t believe it… do they hv to make film to get money?? money is not a plant, it won’t grow day by day…it will makes u going down in the ground DAY BY DAY.

  11. Ko Ku @ July 19th, 2007 at 1:57 pm:

I was shocked when I saw these photos. To be honest, I am a man and I love to see this kind of photos but the girls in the photos are our Burmse girls and acording to our tradition, as well as dignity of Burmese women they are not suppose to take these kind of photos. If one of them is my sister, I can’t express how will I suffer for this.

I FELT SO ASHAMED FOR THESE WOMEN..

you all are watching pron of other country’s girl and when your’s country’s girl wearing a little less and you are over reacting. Wearing less does not mean wanna lay you down or something. They just to want to show off they body line. According to the law you have the right to watch whatever girls wear, and the have the right to wear what they like too. Don’t worry for them.

  15. Ko Ku @ August 19th, 2007 at 1:35 am:

WANNS………..If you say like that, if you feel you have thinkings like western people….why don’t you take photos of your mother, wife & sisters like these burmese models and post in on the web for the public to see. What do you think?

  16. win htun win @ August 20th, 2007 at 7:27 pm:

  17. Toney @ August 23rd, 2007 at 3:06 pm:

I shall like to know about myanmar country gas problem. now every body know how difficult to survived inside the country and no one accept of that increased the price of gas in Myanmar. Now the people of the students are try to stricked that situation to the government but the government’s people are not like human behave they make suffer to that stricker all and made it more problem inside the country. That is very bad situation in the country. I don’t have Idea for how to control the country and next step is should be done something in there. I hope so.

  18. KO Aung @ August 23rd, 2007 at 3:22 pm:

    Dear friend,
I understand about that situation. I can tell you that, our government is truely wrong running business in the country. I have some idea for them. First have to keep the price of the gas and let them low down again and then discuss with the people about that situation and make it decision with each other in the government and people. Second , should make better price of the gas and make it open market with dollar in the country. Third , share with the company of other country and give freedon permit for export and inport. that is for need inside myanmar government economic center.

It 21st century and things are changing very quick, just like a blink. Those who do not care about the changing will surely be shock, but to be honest i appriciate all the burmese stars and girls those who like to appear sexy.
Me myself personally not one treck mind but it is the real changing. Anyhow, remember Burma is nothing to compare to other developing or developed countries.

  21. Thet Naung @ September 2nd, 2007 at 11:14 pm:

    Very Good

  22. Kaythi @ September 3rd, 2007 at 3:53 am:

It is very sad to see that these Myanmar models think that to be “in” and modern, they think that they have to be pornographic. As a mother and a woman, I’m ashamed to see them doing such a pathetic thing. I pity them because they don’t know self respect. The men that they will attract are the ones that will use them as a sex toy but will not respect or marry them. I’m sure most respectable men feel that way. Please stop girls. Do your mothers know of these? I pity them and I feel sorry for you all.

  23. jj @ September 9th, 2007 at 9:17 pm:

very good & so hot.i like it

  24. Cinderellion @ September 13th, 2007 at 11:10 pm:

Most girls thinks ,acting like western people make them to have standard and look attractive. So they imitate them and they had influenced by them.I’m worried about myanmar teenagers.I thinks that should be corrected by parents and teachers.

  25. Han Wint Aung @ September 19th, 2007 at 12:08 am:

These models should keep their SHAME.

  26. Nay Lin @ September 28th, 2007 at 6:33 pm:

Hello. Bro. I like to say some thing. Let do the girls what they want. We don’t have to care. Don’t have to say they need to shame or something like that. We are Myanmar. I don’t agree about to tell other to be shame. The main point is not to do the bad thing. We have to shame for doing badthing. afraid for doing bad thing. Not for waring small thing. :) right?

  27. LaMin @ November 1st, 2007 at 4:02 am:

    Whenhappen they are ?
    I don’t understand.

  28. Nay Thurain @ November 10th, 2007 at 3:43 pm:

I think that they should keep their private parts hidden as much as they can. Triggering men’s libido will end in misbehaving. It’s against every religion. These kind of women are ‘woe men’, enemy of men.

  29. Genny @ November 14th, 2007 at 7:48 pm:

We can say it’s good and bad. But I think I like it because it’s natural and it ‘ll happen in the future. Espeacially now we have free society and nothing can be covered by any means.
when I saw such women, I feel so sexy and can’t make myself
keep steady. Anyway and anyhow 1!!!1! I enjoy seeing them
Also I don’t wanna blame it’s bad according to yanmar culture.
Because of Democracy and technology I think! @ !

  30. hman @ November 16th, 2007 at 6:03 pm:

i think that this is wrong..although we’re in the 21st century,it doesn’t mean we can dress like this.we burmese have our culture and tradition.and just because this is the in thing doesn’t mean we have to neglect our culture and tradition.Furthermore it is against any religion to act this way.You can wear miniskirt and everything..but don’t show your body parts.Girls have to only dignity and pride.Once both is gone it is as good as your life is destroyed.i hope they wake up soon.not only are they shaming themselves but also their families.

  31. annoyed @ December 2nd, 2007 at 4:40 pm:

First of all, it is very annoying that some of you burmese guys are running your mouth over nothing. Will you please grow up? Who made the rules of how burmese girls should look like & act like? You remind me of how Muslim men in the eastern countries trying to control the life of the women. Disguisting!!!!! There is absolutely nothing wrong with a girl wanting to look and feel sexy, and dressing sexy, as long as she’s not showing all that private parts in the public. BUT HOLD UP, don’t go into thinking that she wants you just because she wants to look good. If you do, you are a FOOL and you need to get a life b/c you obviously don’t have anything better to do than trying to criticize how another human being should act and dress like.

  33. j @ February 27th, 2008 at 3:58 am:

i think u guys should shut the hell up… we hve pride and dignity but we also hve a brains to think for ourselves and make rational decisions.. we hve ever right to look sexy and feel sexy without guys like u trying to bring us down… this is the 21st century women has equal rights as men.. We are smart as men sum times even smarter lol u men must remember that it is a women that brought u up in this world so stop trying to control wat we wear to wat we are meant to do to who we hve to be jst to please u…

I must say that the photographer took really bad pics … but sum of them are ok to… think the photographer was trying to hard to make them look European … sum thing that u would see on GQ or cosmopolitan and many other fashion mags…. Mayb nxt time try to make it more artistic or theme it better … and think the girls need to learn to pose better … that’s all… the fashion is okay its coming along .. Alot better then before … they had bad fashion bck in the day…

  34. lookatyou @ May 6th, 2008 at 12:33 am:

oh come on. give these girls a break! it’s time you learn art and fashion. and besides, who says fashion is a sin? and please tell me you are not as sinful as i think you people are. come on! clean your own backyard first before you start judging other people.

  37. sai @ July 30th, 2008 at 8:25 pm:

Enevitable if I have to say!

Who the hell on earth would enjoy ogling their own kins stripping for public pleasure!

Surely not you.. Not me. Not anyone even from a more liberal country or cultured country, continent.

But if they choose to do it? So be it. We do not like our sisters to do so? By all means, by our social norms or so-called Myanmar culture, domestically tell our sisters or beat them (even so, we do not have the right to do so from human right point of view). But do we have the right to tell the strangers/ models off? Not so, I guess.

You have all the right not to see them if you donlt like. On the same parameters, they have all the rights to reveal everything they possess.

So if we don’t like such kind of acts why we even visit them, see them and felt helpless and bothered.

We are in the process of marching towards a full democracy, equal opportunites and human right Myanmar. Aren’t we?

If so, why we are acting like moral guards to restrict people from doing what they are happy to do? It’s kind of violating one’s right and contradicting ourselves in demanding human rights from the Generals. By doing so, we are showing and approving the General’s statements that we are not ready for the democracy! Probably, we are still enjoying Generals’ treatments, ” Burmese way of democracy”.

From my humble opinion, no force , no exlpoitation invloved in those shoots? Fine. They like it? They enjoy acting naked? Go ahead. If I think indecent or no taste, I will not see them. I will practise my full human rights not to see them. I like them? No one can stop me. I am again pratising my rights to do what I like.

In every act, there is a price to pay for.. it’s a matter of cheap or expensive. Light or heavy.

Leave it to individual choice. To each his own, we are responsible for our own acts.

Not mean to offence any party who has a stake in this subject but trying to practise my very own right to voice what I feel. Not necessary to be right across..

    Cheers.

please don’t leave dirty comment !

  43. Pho-Kachin @ August 13th, 2008 at 5:53 pm:

    My opinion,
There is something missing in above comments & discussions. I don’t wanna argue that their wearing is good or bad for Myanmar. Let me hold non-aligned policy. :)
I do agree that we Myanmar have our own culture & wearing. But that culture & dressing are changed, transformed & modernized by so many matters. Anyhow modernizing our culture & dressing, most of Myanmar girls, their inner nature, they don’t wanna show their bodies. On the other hand, women’s character, to attract mankind, may be, some wanna dress sexy dressing. (Sorry ladies if i were wrong.) Yeap! i don’t like if my mother or sister dress like them.
But the “profession”. The begger will do begging the money in many ways from people. Even whore, she’ll also do her best for her customer. I believe that everybody would try & think how to make best in their business & professional jobs. Same thing, above Myanmar actress & model grils, are doing their own professional jobs. So, what shall i say.?
Lets hold our right, do best our professional jobs & move forward to the better lives.
    :)

  45. maypeace @ January 19th, 2009 at 2:08 pm:

when i was 16 yrs old, I liked to wear mini skirt or pants, inn other words, did like to reveal my skin as much as possible. However, my parents didn’t allow me, and explained to me that, for a girl, “thait khar”( i don’t know that word in English, sry) is very important. Men will like a sexy girl, but they like her as a sex tool. Most of them will look down to her even she is so rich. Now I’m 20. Coz of my parents’ guidlines, I realized how to keep a lady’s the goodwill in terms of physical behaviours.

  46. xandra @ January 25th, 2009 at 4:36 pm:

I think Myanmar girls are very sexy, majority of the pictures
are decent and sexy, the only time I felt embarrassed was in
one of the youtube Thingyan video clip, there was this one
girl with shorts, it could be she was on ectasy or drunk, her
dancing moves were obscene, someone should pull her off
the stage. They have to dress up with the times and fashion
with internet everything is global. I don’t want our Burmese
man to act like those man in the middle eastern countries.
Do you want your women to dress in Shados (cloaks), those black coverings. Do the Islamic man get erection when they
see flesh of the opposite sex. We should not become extremist.
But we have to give out signals, not to cheapen themselves,
but I blame the incompetence of our military government
now the easiest way to make money is work in those
Karaoke Beer Bars, letting the women parade and cheapen
themselves as fashion models. Pretty soon they begin
to sell their bodies for a price. Also they should not discard
their traditional clothes, Myanmar is one of the few country that
still wear their traditional clothes. Our men
looks sexy with pasoe and women looks demure and unique.
We should never give up our uniqueness and culture, look at
Thailand or Korea, they have lost their uniqueness. India is
still proud of their culture and their traditional clothes. Nothing
personal on looking Korean, but what happen to our unique
Burmese looks and our tan skin, why do we have to ape
the Caucasian look or Korean looks. I think our man and women
with their deep tan skin, especially man are so sexy with pasoe.
One of the foreign tourist commented, she’s been to other
neighboring countries, none of the man turn her on, but
when she was in Burma she said something about the
Burmese man with pasoe finds, irresistible, I think maybe becoz of Buddhist influence and teaching makes them gentle and pure
hearted. Please we should not loose our self esteem, when
I watch our movies and MVD’s, I want to see our Burmese
features and skin color, I feel like watching a Korean show.
I remember buying a wooden sculpture, the face has western
feature, I wanted an Asian feature. Please have pride in your
roots and uniqueness. We should not give up our traditional
clothes, the western clothes is OK as a novelty, never feel
ashame of your culture and clothes, if you forget your roots
you will loose your identity. Be proud of your heritage.

  52. Dabetswe @ February 12th, 2012 at 5:57 pm:

Most of the people who responded are Men or Males. So I think this is a very biased response!! I am a Myanmar woman and I think if the girls want to dress whatever they want to, that is fine! If people look down on them, that is the problem of those people, not the women! Just because a woman shows skin doesn’t mean she wants sex or is loose or disrespectful. A woman’s body is beautiful and she is just showing that beauty, simple as that! Culture isn’t just about whether skin shows or not but about other values, like respect to elders, language, music, dance, art, religion, food, education, literature, and other values like honesty, communication styles, etc. So just because a woman shows skin doesn’t mean she is losing all those other aspects of culture. This is another way of oppressing women by putting this arbitrary value and limitation on women’s freedom to choose how they want to dress and how they want to express themselves.
